IMPORTANT: READ BEFORE PROCEEDING.
AvaBuoy is currently in the Pre-Production & Engineering Validation phase. The product depicted is a functional prototype and is not yet available for retail purchase. While designed to meet rigorous alpine safety standards, the device has not yet been submitted to a notified body (e.g., TÜV SÜD) for third-party assessment under the EU PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (and the corresponding Swiss PPE Ordinance, PSAV / SR 930.115). Technical specifications are subject to final validation.
Avalanches are catastrophic natural events involving massive forces, trauma, and asphyxiation risks. No avalanche safety equipment—including transceivers, airbags, or AvaBuoy—can guarantee survival. The best defence is avalanche avoidance through education and decision-making. Consult a qualified professional for training.
AvaBuoy is strictly a supplementary safety device. It is designed to complement, not replace, mandatory avalanche safety equipment. You must always carry a transceiver (beacon), probe, and shovel, and travel with a trained partner when entering avalanche terrain.
The rescue time projections shown on this site are theoretical design targets based on engineering data and internal modelling. The segregation threshold chart and on-site simulator are illustrative theoretical models informed by granular-flow physics and scientific literature (e.g., Bartelt & McArdell, 2009; Duan et al., 2022; Genswein & Eide, 2008; Gray & Ancey, 2015; Gray & Thornton, 2005; Guillard et al., 2016; Huerta et al., 2005; Jing et al., 2020; Mitarai & Nori, 2006; Rauch et al., 2024; Samadani & Kudrolli, 2000; Savage & Lun, 1988; Tripathi & Khakhar, 2013; Wallner et al., 2019). These models assume specific snow conditions and flow regimes and are not predictive of outcomes in the field.
AvaBuoy utilises a high-strength connection cord. This device is designed exclusively for use in open, high-alpine terrain (above the tree line). Deployment in terrain with obstacles (such as trees, rocks, or fences) creates a significant risk of entanglement. Snagging the tether during an avalanche slide may result in severe physical trauma to the user due to the high tensile strength of the connection.
